Cixi City Education Business Profile
      Since the reforming to open, not only the social economy of Cixi city has been consistently & fast developed but also the education business has been made outstanding achievements. By the end of 2003, there are 142 of elementary schools、38 of junior high schools、13 of common senior high schools、11 of occupation senior high schools、1 of special school and total 157059 of elementary school & middle school students、20 of street adult culture & technical schools、287 of nursery schools and total 37414 of children on the schools accordingly in the city. As for the education staff, there are total 7740.
     
      Cixi city is one of the Nation-wide first ＾two base￣ Counties(Cities)、 Ningbo City Education ＾two high￣ Counties(city)、Zhejiang Province first Strong Education Counties(Cities) and was approved as one of the province execution counties(cities) of the ability oriented education. On the eliminating illiteracy、 child、special、school physical、higher education and the self-teaching, our city was also rewarded as one of the national advanced schools. Total 20 towns of our city have past the double-checking & approved on Ningbo City Strong Education Towns & Provincial Strong Education Towns respectively and to be the first ＾Strong & all-round Victory￣ county(city).Among them, there are 11 of state-level & province-level key high schools & the total number is the most among Zhejiang province、39 of demonstration junior high & elementary schools(nursery schools)、 32 of Ningbo City Modernization Construction Realization Schools & the ratio is over 40% which holds the fist place among Ningbo city.
 
      The entrance & finishing rate of whole city mandatory education is 100% & 99.75% respectively. The graduation rate for the elementary school student、the entrance rate for the three types of disable children、the entrance rate for 3-year of nursery education of preschool education & graduation rate for junior high school student is 99.9%、97%、98%、86.35% respectively. The latest one can basically meet with the requirements for the city proper junior high school student graduate into senior high school education. The recruitment ratio for the common senior high school and the middle technical & occupation school keeps about 1:1. As for 2003 university entrance examination, there are total 5552 of students have signed up in our city & 5269 students¨ score are upper the criterion score line and the relevant ratio is 95.8% which is still on the front place among senior high schools of Ningbo city. From above, achievements made on characteristic & ability oriented education of our city is obvious and the occupation & adult education have be first stepped forward that the earlier stage work on city construction of occupation education has been started basing on the repeatedly demonstration & according to the imagination on occupation education city construction of the municipality committee & government. On the other hand, new achievements have been made on the teaching & scientific research work and 83、186 & 239 of them have been rewarded as the State-level Teaching & Scientific Research Achievement Reward、Province-level Teaching & Scientific Research Achievement Reward & Ningbo City Teaching & Scientific Research Achievement Reward respectively.
 
      Here, we have preliminarily set up the new coexisting layout of basing government starts the schools as the main body、all social circles take part in、the individual person starts schools、systematically starts schools、the enterprises start school & shareholding system start schools. The citizen-managed schools includes all fields such as preschool、foundation、occupation、higher education and others. At present moment, there are 360 of all kinds of citizen-managed education organizations and 8 of common junior high schools & elementary schools in our city. As for the citizen-managed schools, the total inputting amount is almost 4 hundred million and the students on the schools are over 10 thousand. In addition, through specifying the starting action of children¨s schools whose parents are laborers working on a public project, a large number of those children have already been admitted for entrance & total about 1.8 million of the children on the schools and the problem that it is difficult for those children to go to school has been preliminarily solved.
